    Enforcement Campaign is ONGOING

Yavapai County Sheriff's OfficePrescott AZ (November 25, 2020) – In an effort to save more lives on Arizona’s roadways this month, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is partnering with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office to enforce Arizona’s seat belt and child safety seat laws.

Although Arizona has a secondary seatbelt law, the enforcement campaign is based upon high visibility traffic enforcement with a “zero-tolerance” approach towards seat belt and child safety seat usage. Secondary offense is an offense for which a driver or a passenger can receive a citation but only after a driver has been pulled over for a primary offense violation.

20201125_buckleupAs part of a national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign, the Sheriff’s Office will be stepping up traffic enforcement patrols and increasing other enforcement efforts to drive home the message: Buckle Up Arizona…It’s the Law!

Despite widespread efforts to educate drivers about the importance of wearing seat belts, motor vehicles collisions continue to be the leading cause of death and serious injuries to the citizens of our state.  The enforcement mobilization is ongoing from November 16 through November 29.

Regular seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes. When worn correctly, seat belts have proven to reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45% – and by 60% for occupants of pickup trucks, SUVs and mini-vans. In the last few years, we have seen several deaths due, in part, to a lack of seat belt use following a collision. Funding is provided by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.  BUCKLE UP ARIZONA…. IT’S THE LAW!

City Tables OHV Ordinance Once Again:
    Volunteer Effort Sputters

    By Tommy Acosta
–Predictably, the Sedona City Council at its September 12 meeting, failed to arrive at any consensus or take action on a possible Off Highway Vehicle volunteer agreement or the resurrection of a proposed ordinance regulating such vehicles on city streets. Obviously, without the threat of perceived “unsafe” OHVs being banned on city streets hanging over their heads, there is no longer impetus for these companies to volunteer to any city-imposed restrictions or requirements. We should not be surprised that with that cat out of the bag, the volunteer OHV companies will simply now pull out. Why bother if the ordinance is a toothless tiger? The ordinance is dead. The council has lost its appetite for a three-or-more year legal battle between the city and the OHV business owners, a fight the city would handily lose. The volunteer effort is kaput. Though interesting and fueled by emotion, it’s all been a waste of time. Read more→
