Joshua Tobey has gone where very few sculptors before him have gone: In September, he opened his own foundry. Twelve months ago, there was a two-and-a-half-year turn-around time for one of his new tabletop sculptures. Now they are available in a matter of weeks. “I have my own army – my own dream crew,” he says. What does that mean for Sedona collectors eagerly anticipating Joshua’s annual spring show at Rowe Fine Art Gallery? Almost instant gratification. Joshua will be back in Red Rock Country on Friday, April 4, from 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, April 5, from 1…

Fisher Theatre. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7g-bxQwmU0s Two recreational baseball teams, the River Dogs and Adlers Paint, have been meeting on their New England field on Sunday afternoons for longer than anyone can remember. These middle-aged sportsmen can’t run as fast as they used to or connect as reliably with a pitch, but their vigorous appetite for socializing, squabbling, and busting chops remains undiminished. After the know-nothing county board opts to raze the baseball diamond to make way for…
Clarkdale News – Jim Roberts the lawman. Some accounts say he fired the shot which killed the bank robber at the Bank of Arizona on June 21, 1928, and some accounts say the bank manager, Robert Southard, was the one. He also took part in the Pleasant Valley War between the Grahams and Tewksbury’s. With his calm demeanor…
… one of the first birds that frequented our yard and neighborhood when we first moved to Sedona and began construction on our home was the always happy and scurrying Gambel’s Quail. Just before they hatch, mom calls to the chicks in the eggs who then begin cheeping to each other and shortly thereafter they all cut holes in the egg shells and emerge into the world … their population waxes and wanes depending on the conditions during the winter and early spring. The little ones who look like little walnuts running around are amazing to watch. The photo above I…

By Jeremiah Perez Sedona, AZ — There is a dark scepter descending upon this planet, and the sorrow it brings is unfathomable. So deep. So thick, like a black hole sucking out what is left of our humanity. One can see it, shrouding everything in a cloak of dismal despair. For those who once believed in making the world a better place and fighting, for a better tomorrow, the war is over. Every day the hopeful’s dreams are dashed as the somnambulists are programmed into acceptance of a tomorrow that will strip the planet of what goodness, is left. The…
By Amaya Gayle Gregory What does it mean to not mind what happens? We humans have so many stories about it. Does it mean that we think pain and suffering are just fine, or that folks that hurt children aren’t doing something bad? Does it mean that we’re okay with poverty and war, with human trafficking, rapists and murderers? Maybe it means that we sit back and simply watch as politicians run amok, keeping our smug mouths shut in a state of calm disconnection. It could mean any and all of those things, but it doesn’t to me and that’s…

By Bear Howard Bear Howard Chronicles Talk to any longtime resident of Sedona, and you’ll probably hear the phrase, “Remember when?” They reminisce about the small market on Highway 179, the Flicker Shack, and the funky Mars/Alien burger stand on 89A in West Sedona. They recall fights over streetlights on 89A and debates over whether a CVS should be built at the corner of Airport Road and 89A. Change has always been part of Sedona’s story, but something about this latest shift feels different—and not in a good way. Sedona is losing its middle class, the backbone of any real…
