Flagstaff News – The National Park Service has issued a federal register notice announcing its determination that 34,194 acres, or 96.5% of Wupatki National Monument’s total 35,424 acres, meet criteria indicating eligibility for preservation as wilderness under the Wilderness Act of 1964. The notice can be found here.   As a next step, and in accordance with policy, the NPS plans to prepare a wilderness study to determine if any portions of the monument should be recommended for inclusion in the National Wilderness Preservation System as defined in the Wilderness Act. Sedona News – The Fuller Fire, located south of the Village of Oak Creek (GPS coordinates: 34°45’48.0″N 111°47’15.6″W) is 2 acres and producing visible smoke. Responding resources include two engines and helitack. The fire, reported 9 p.m. Sunday, was caused by lightning. Winds from passing thunderstorms created a small uptick in fire behavior last night. The Fuller Fire is currently experiencing low fire behavior and is creeping and smoldering in grass and juniper. Smoke will remain visible throughout the day while crews work to contain the fire.
