By Amaya Gayle Gregory Sedona, AZ — Rather than spending time discussing whose version is right and whose is wrong, I think I’ll spend the rest of my life with everyday people, those who are simply living, loving, doing their best with the life they’ve been given, and let them show me their secrets. I’d like to know people better, to see what’s important to each one, to give back some of what I’ve been given, not in the sense of spiritual know-it-all platitudes and subtle corrections to their thinking, but in genuine interest, authentic caring, in unconditional friendship. I’ve…

To Kill or Be Killed — Is That a Question? When Secretary of War Pete Segweth allegedly ordered his military to “kill them all,” in reference to survivors of a narco-boat strike, he was only following a long and bloody tradition. History is filled with leaders who, when faced with moral ambiguity, chose efficiency over conscience. Queen Marie Antoinette is famously — if apocryphally — credited with ordering her soldiers to kill both Catholics and Protestants when they could not tell them apart, declaring, “Kill them all and let God sort them out.” Whether or not the quote is accurate,…

By David Stephen — To solve drug addiction and mental illness in psychiatry, model electrical and chemical signals — in clusters of neurons — to link mechanisms and experiences, matching inputs and changes to outcomes, to become a new way to closely describe what is happening within, as well as to place the type of intervention that is needed in a moment. There is a new [December 15, 2025] story in The New York Times, Nick Reiner’s Struggles With Drugs Left His Parents ‘Desperate’, stating that, “Michele Reiner had said a few years ago of her son’s struggles: “We’ve tried everything. We don’t…
By Steve Segner — What’s the Rush? The City of Sedona purchased the historic Brewer Road property more than ten years ago, and the park is still not fully developed. That project went through multiple design iterations and is only now nearing completion. So I have to ask: what’s the rush with the Western Gateway? There is no compelling reason that permanent zoning and development decisions for the Western Gateway must be made now. Sedona’s housing challenges are real, but they can—and are—being addressed in multiple ways while we take the time necessary to determine the best long-term use of this…
By Amaya Gayle Gregory Sedona, AZ — If you’re a rare one who is not stressed by these times we’re living through, scroll on by. This one’s not for you. A friend dropped me a note today. She is struggling with what is happening in Gaza and is worried about the elections. The stress is debilitating. She wasn’t asking for help. After all, there is a lot going on.…
