Sedona AZ (September 29, 2013) – After a year’s hiatus, the Sedona Book Festival returns on Saturday, October 5, bigger and better than ever. The fourth Sedona Book festival will be held at Yavapai College in Sedona, from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm, with over 100 local, regional and national authors, publishers, organizations and others exhibiting all things books and book-related.

The Sedona Book Festival is sponsored by The Well Red Coyote bookstore and by Yavapai College, with net proceeds going to the Yavapai College Foundation.

This year’s festival will feature several national bestselling and nationally prominent authors who will make presentations throughout the day, culminating with keynote speaker Anne Hillerman, daughter of the late and legendary Southwest mystery writer, Tony Hillerman.

The festival day will begin with Pat Sinclair, author of Scandinavian Classic Baking and Scandinavian Classic Desserts. Sinclair is a food consultant and recipe developer/tester for such food conglomerates as Land O’Lakes, General Mills and Pillsbury. She also was the recipe editor for two Pillsbury Classic Cookbooks and a Land O’Lakes cookbook.

Local photographer, Harvey Stearn, author of In Search of the Old West, will share Southwest/West photographs, including landscapes, wildlife, ruins & relics, rodeos and Native American images. He’ll also discus his digital photography techniques.

There will also be a special panel discussion of what’s new in fantasy, romance, mystery, westerns and other genres, with three bestselling authors participating and moderated by local favorite, Kris Neri.

In more than twenty years as a journalist, she has worked as editorial page editor for the Albuquerque Journal North and the Santa Fe New Mexican, and as an arts editor for both papers.

I look forward to the festival and visiting Sedona, one of my favorite places in the Southwest. Thank you so much for the invitation to join the resurgence of this great FREE event to promote books and the joy of reading.

    Analyzing City’s Legal Right to
    Ban OHVs on Public Roads

    By Tommy Acosta
Mea Culpa! Mea Culpa! Mea Maxima Culpa! I screwed up. Blew it. Totally made a fool of myself. Missed the boat. I am talking about my editorial on the OHV fight, No Legal Traction on OHVs. I assumed that it was ADOT that would make a decision on whether the city could legally ban off road vehicles from our public roads like S.R. 89A and S.R. 179. Man was I off. ADOT has nothing to do with allowing or disallowing the city to do so. ADOT’s response to me when I asked them to clarify their position, was curt and to the point. “ADOT designs, builds and maintains the state highway system,” I was told. “It is not our place to offer an opinion on how state law might apply in this matter.” It was a totally “duh” moment for me when I realized that that the decision or judgement on the OHV ordinance, would involve the state and not ADOT. Chagrinned I stand. The crux of the matter then is whether the city can effectively use a number of standing state laws that can be interpreted to determine whether the city can legally ban the vehicles or not.
