logo MATForceVerde Valley AZ (November 20, 2012) – A “Dump the Drugs” event will be held on December 1st in Lake Montezuma at the Beaver Creek Adult Center.  MATFORCE, the Beaver Creek Community Action Team and Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office are helping sponsor this event.

Prescription drug abuse is a national epidemic.  Data from the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy shows that almost 20 million pain relievers, muscle relaxers and sedatives were dispensed in Yavapai County in a one-year period ending last July.  That amounts to 94 pills per resident per year.  Among our youth, the 2010 Arizona Youth Survey shows one out of every four 10th and 12th grade students has abused pain medication.
