Friends of the Verde RiverCottonwood AZ (January 11, 2020) – Friends of the Verde River is pleased to announce that Kegn Moorcroft has been hired as the Stewardship & Development Manager on January 6, 2020.

Moorcroft is a Sedona, AZ native and comes to the Friends of the River after 8-years with the Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau as their Director of Communications.

“We had a very talented pool of applicants and Kegn rose to the top. I’m so pleased she has joined our team,” said Nancy Steele, Friends’ Executive Director.

Moorcroft brings vast experience and skills to Friends of the Verde River, specifically in event planning, social media management, content curation, media and film assistance, brand development, tourism management, and website maintenance. Moorcroft was instrumental in the development, distribution and implementation of the Sedona Sustainable Tourism Plan, released in 2019.

Friends of the Verde River has three collaborative teams who work together to keep the Verde River healthy and flowing: restoring habitat, sustain flows and promote community stewardship. Moorcroft will head up the Community Stewardship sector by overseeing annual, educational, fundraising and volunteer events. She will work towards inspiring positive community collaboration geared towards education, participation, fundraising, and awareness.

Moorcroft has her sights set on connecting with surrounding communities that benefit directly and indirectly from the river, including cities and towns surrounding the rivers tributaries, including Wet Beaver Creek, Oak Creek, Fossil Creek, Sycamore Creek, Granite Creek and West Clear Creek.

“Many Phoenicians don’t know that their drinking water comes from the Verde River,” says Moorcroft. Approximately 40% of the surface water that the Salt River Project delivers annually to Phoenix-area residents for municipal and agricultural use comes from the Verde River. “It’s important to expand our reach of influence and knowledge to keep our unique desert river flowing for generations to come.”

Friends of the Verde River is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization with a mission to work collaboratively to restore habitat, sustain flows and promote community stewardship to support a healthy Verde River system. We envision a healthy, flowing Verde River and tributaries that support our unique environment, vibrant economy, and quality of life for future generations.
