Sedona AZ (December 6, 2019) – Red Earth Theatre is delighted to return with a reading of ‘A Christmas Carol’ in the Chapel at the Patio de la Camilla, Tlaquepaque for two performances on Thursday December 19th  at 6pm and 7.30. After 2 sold out performances last year, Scrooge returns to the red rocks of Sedona.

Performers include Mike Peach as Scrooge and Gerard Maguire as Marley, with Riley Whitaker, Mitch McDermott, Cathy Ransom, Tiffany Grimm, Lisa Shatz-Glinsky, Zeke Collins and Craig Hartley. Joining Red Earth for the first time are Andrea Ferraz, Abby Heydorn, Max Peters and Iain Paterson. The three Christmas Spirits are played by Joan Westmoreland, Terra Shelman and (also in his first performance with Red Earth) Henry Bokenham.

Director Kate Hawkes, working with a script adapted by Cindy McGean, developed this version for last year’s Sedona show. Over 12 years ago she worked with a group in Portland, Oregon touring the area for several years and performing in the beautiful little Chapel at Tlaquepaque in Sedona she expects not to have to deal with a lot of snow as was often the case in Portland!

This fast-paced energetic version is spiced with a variety of Christmas songs (including a rendition of ‘Silent Night’ in Portuguese) led by Iain Paterson on the ukulele and Riley Whittaker on the guitar. You are invited to join in when you can.

This is Red Earth’s second year working with Wendy Lippman (Tlaquepaque owner and property manager) to add live theatre to the current roster of live music and other events. The third Thursday of each month brings a series of simple stripped-down theatrical performances, featuring local performers and a variety of live forms. Future dates in 2020 include performances on Jan 16th (with Gary Every), Feb 20th (with the Red Rock High School), March 19th, April 16th (with Parangello Players), May 21st and June 18th  (a special show with Canned Sedona). If you are a performer with an idea for a show please contact Red Earth Theatre at info@redearththeatre.org or by phone at 938-399-0997.

A nonprofit company founded in 2013, Red Earth Theatre provides a platform to inspire and nurture many voices through live performance, and encourages dialogue exploring the human experience in our diverse communities throughout the Verde Valley. (For more on Red Earth visit www.redearththeatre.org)

Red Earth is offering two performances of ‘A Christmas Carol’ to allow as many people as possible to see it. Last years’ show sold out and people were turned away. Seating is limited so please arrive a little early and enjoy the beautiful chapel before the reading begins. Dress warmly to allow for possibly waiting for the previous audience to exit.

Plan to have a meal before or after the show at one of the local restaurants, pick up a cup of something warm, dress cozily and join us when we revisit this timeless classic in the Chapel at 6pm and 7.30 pm on Thursday December 19th. We also ask that you bring warm clothing, a nonperishable food donation or gift card to a grocery store which will be shared with those in need. And we wish you a merry Christmas!
