Sedona AZ (September 25, 2019) – The Humane Society of Sedona found new homes for 36 dogs and cats over a four day adoption event and set a new adoption event record for 2019. From September 12 through September 15 a festive adoption event titled “Get Your Licks on Route 66 & PetSmart National Adoption Weekend” was held at Sedona PetSmart and at the Humane Society of Sedona’s main shelter at 2115 Shelby Drive, in West Sedona.
The “all adoption fees waived” event featured prize wheels, fresh popcorn and adoptable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at both locations. “PetSmart has been such a gracious host over the years and provides both outdoor and indoor space for our animals during these events” stated Sarah Porter, Volunteer & Events Coordinator for the Humane Society of Sedona.
Because of the heat during the days, many animals remained at the shelter, so it was very active there as well. Lines of potential “new parents” filled many of the adoption spaces and people were told to arrive early the next day because many of the animals had several adopters looking at them.
At PetSmart, the “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” group was present on Thursday and had a prize wheel with thousands of dollars in giveaways. The donations from the prize wheel were in turn donated to the Humane Society of Sedona. Also, joining the Humane Society that day was “Pets Return Home”, a rescue group out of Clarkdale, AZ with adoptable dogs. Saturday, Yavapai Broadcasting was present with music, a prize wheel and giveaways.
Jennifer Brehler, Executive Director for the Humane Society of Sedona, summed it up this way. “The four day event was very active, but our adoption team comprised of staff and volunteers were there for our animals. Anytime you can adopt 36 animals to new homes and watch the joy on the faces of the families and kids; all else is forgotten and the reward is lasting.”
