20190708_smokey_quiltCottonwood AZ (July 16, 2019) – UPDATE – Smokey Bear will be celebrating his 75th birthday on August 10.  As part of his birthday celebration, a quilt has been created by award winning quilter Eunice Hill.  The quilt is now on display at the Quilter’s Quarters in Cottonwood, located at 51 W. Verde Heights Drive which is right off of Hwy 89A, about a half a mile past the Verde Valley Medical Center.  (Unfortunately, the Sedona Quilt Store has closed, so the quilt has moved to Cottonwood.)

The quilt will be raffled off on Saturday August 10, at the Smokey Bear 75th Birthday Party, to be held from 10-2 at the Red Rock Ranger District Visitor Center.

Tickets may now be purchased at the Quilter’s Quarters:  $1 for 1 ticket, $5 for 6 tickets, and $10 for 15 tickets.  The funds raised will be given to the Wildland Firefighters’ Foundation to help families who have lost a firefighter.

On Saturday August 10th, the Red Rock District of the US Forest Service and much of the USA will be celebrating Smokey Bear’s 75th birthday and raffling off this beautiful quilt. Stop by the Red Rock Ranger District Visitor Center just south of the Village of Oak Creek and join the celebration. The Forest Service is hosting a birthday party with displays, presentations, safety themed games, sno-cones, a dunk tank for visitors to help Forest Service staff “cool off” and a birthday cake. A 1924 Dodge pickup truck, the oldest vehicle in the Forest service inventory, will be on display.
