… I am totally fascinated with the disruption of airglow over the wings of the great blue heron when it is landing and the beauty as it reaches for the air as it takes off … here is a shot I took this afternoon of the heron in flight. Everything is aerodynamically perfect and the feathers laid down and the wings a perfect airfoil … a truly magnificent flying machine as he cruises around 30 mph. The speed does not sound all that high, but keep in mind that he is covering approximately 44 feet per second or the length of a football field in about seven seconds. For those interested I took the shot with my Canon 1D-X, 100/400mm lens f/5.6, 1/2500th of a second and ISO 250. I shoot manual, but float the ISO in a fairly narrow range.
Another nice day, trip to the airport and got new tarp panels ordered to replace the ones that have been battered by the wind, a long walk at Bubbling Ponds Fish Hatchery and then down to Cottonwood to take care of a few things. Home and out with One … whilst making dinner the bobcat came strolling up the cart path, but I couldn’t get a camera in time to shoot him. Tomorrow is likely going to be similar … at least the waking up in the morning … I hope. Such a great way to start a day
