logo_sedonafiredistrictSedona AZ (April 17, 2018) – After consulting with local County Emergency Managers and District Rangers, it has been determined that effective Friday, April 20th, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. Sedona Fire District (SFD) is implementing fire restrictions.

These restrictions prohibit all open fires, fire pits and campfires (except those noted below). During the period of fire restrictions, no burn permits will be issued and existing burn permits are hereby suspended. Fireworks and other pyrotechnic displays are prohibited, unless permitted by the Fire Marshal.

EXCEPTIONS: Red Rock Ranger District is allowing campfires, woodstove use and charcoal fires ONLY in the following Developed Recreation Sites. The Red Rock Ranger District may change this exception at any time due to increased fire danger.

These restrictions also prohibit the outdoor use of equipment that generates sparks or open flames. This restricts the outdoor use of welding equipment, grinders and chain saws. However, variances for use of spark producing devices can be requested from the Fire Marshal.

Cooking on propane grills and the use of UL listed, natural gas or propane flame producing heating/warming appliances is still allowed provided that the appliance is located at least 10 feet from combustible materials. Charcoal barbecue grills are allowed only at private residences so long as they are covered. Outdoor smoking in public areas shall be limited to designated smoking areas.

Any exceptions to these restrictions require approval from the Fire Marshal.

Residents are encouraged to exercise caution and good judgment. The following suggestions will help keep you and our community safe:

    • Propane grills are preferred over charcoal grills during high fire danger periods.
    • Charcoal grills shall have a functioning lid.
    • Locate your grill at least 10 feet from combustibles (home, wood piles, vegetation, etc.).
    • Keep a garden hose readily available nearby.
    • A competent, unimpaired adult should be in attendance until the fire is DEAD OUT!
    • Charcoal should be placed in a metal container and soaked with water after use to ensure complete extinguishment.
    • Sedona Fire District may establish additional requirements, up to and including the extinguishment of any fire, on a case-by-case basis to ensure the public health, safety and welfare.

Please contact Fire Marshal Jon Davis or Fire Inspector Rick Evans 928-204-8926 if you have any questions.
