Unique event brings Sedona community together for bike races, brew, food and fun
Sedona AZ (July 14, 2016) – Sedona Golf Resort will host the third-annual Sedona Bike & Brew Festival August 26-27, 2016. The special event – believed to be the first of its kind – features mountain bike races on the golf course. The six-mile course runs along all 18 holes, 80 acres of fairways, tee boxes, cart paths, natural and manmade features.
This year’s event kicks off at 2 p.m. Friday, August 26 with rider registration and a leisurely group ride to familiarize the racers with the track. A 20-minute criterium will follow the group ride, which local rider Cody Kukulski won last year. After the race, the Juniper Bar & Grille (Sedona Golf Resort’s restaurant), will host dinner along with music. Ten to 12 varieties of craft beer will be poured by Oak Creek Brewery (Sedona), Four Peaks Brewery (Tempe), and Oskar Blues (Lyons, Colo.).
In the Men’s Open Division, local Sedona resident, Alex Petitdemange, will be defending his title after peddling to victory last year. This year’s races start Saturday, August 27 at 8 a.m. with six different competition classifications for juniors, women and men. Racing will be followed by an awards ceremony, music, food, drink and a raffle benefiting the Mountain Bike Club at Verde Valley School.
“Sedona has become a must-ride venue for mountain bike riders from all over the world and we are here to not only support that cause but to also throw a great party for the local community,” said Jeremy Hayman, general manager for Sedona Golf Resort. “We’re looking forward to a unique and exciting race that will support a worthy cause. And we’ll manage to have a little fun along the way.”
The Sedona community is encouraged to come out Friday and Saturday to cheer on the racers. There is no admission fee for the general public and food and drink will be available for purchase.
The racers fee is $75 per person or $150 for the VIP package. Both packages include a certificate to come back at a later date and play golf at Sedona Golf Resort. Juniors age 17 and under are free. To sign up or to read more go to www.sedonabikebrew.com.
