Future of the Colorado Plateau Forum: Clean Energy
Flagstaff AZ (February 25, 2014) – Experts from the National Renewable Energy Lab and the U.S. Department of the Interior are coming to Flagstaff to participate in a clean energy public forum at the Museum of Northern Arizona at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26.
The Future of the Colorado Plateau Forum: Clean Energy is designed for the community to share its perspectives and clean energy ideas. The forum will focus on alternative means for the region to meet electric needs and reduce carbon to our atmosphere.
David Palumbo, Deputy Regional Director for the Lower Colorado Region of the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation will host the forum. Palumbo will detail commitments made by the federal government to clean energy development and carbon reduction, especially those relevant to Native Americans and the Colorado Plateau.
“We want to provide the opportunity for everyone to talk about what they would like to see as future energy sources on the Colorado Plateau,” said Robert Breunig, president and CEO for the Museum of Northern Arizona. “This forum is a place for the community to be heard, especially those with ideas they would like considered by federal energy officials.”
The first Future of the Colorado Plateau Forum hosted by MNA in November 2013 focused on the region’s long history of reliance on coal to generate electricity at the Navajo Generating Station.
The Museum of Northern Arizona is hosting a series of Future of the Colorado Plateau Forums to work with the community to address issues affecting the future of the environment and cultures living in the region. These free forums are held in MNA’s Branigar-ChaseDiscoveryCenter auditorium and are intended to inspire public involvement. Upcoming forums include:
- Clean Energy: March 26
- Forests: April 30
- Water: July 16
- Weather and Climate: Sept 17
- Wilderness and Wildlife: November 19
