COTTONWOOD, Ariz. – The Verde Valley Humane Society was privileged to be recognized as a Local Pet Hero by Petsense for making an impact on the lives of pets in our community.
Petsense by Tractor Supply Co. is a pet specialty retailer typically based in small and mid-size communities. In honor of America’s 250th, Petsense launched its “Petsense Celebrates Pet Heroes” initiative to recognize 250 people and organizations making a positive impact on the lives of pets across the country. They asked community members in every city that they operate in to nominate a local pet hero, and members from their Cottonwood store nominated VVHS.
“VVHS is very grateful for the continued support of Petsense here in Cottonwood,” VVHS Board President Maxine Belcher said. “They have always been supportive and helpful, as well as providing food, supplies and special events held at the store.”
Petsense actively promotes responsible pet ownership through community involvement, adoption events and education. Petsense in Cottonwood has hosted VVHS fundraisers like a holiday bake sale featuring a pet photo booth with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and an Easter bake sale featuring a pet photo opportunity with the Easter bunny.
VVHS received a $250 gift card as one of the 250 local pet heroes. “Receiving the Petsense Local Pet Hero award is especially meaningful because it recognizes the incredible staff, volunteers, donors, fosters, adopters, and supporters who make this work possible every single day,” Shelter Manager Melanie Lucas said. “They give their time, their hearts, their resources, and sometimes a little piece of themselves to make sure the animals in our care know they matter.”
“Animal welfare has never been the work of just one person or one shelter, it takes a community,” Lucas continued. “This recognition belongs to everyone who has stood beside us, believes in what we do, and continues to help us show up for the animals who need us.”
