Sedona, AZ — The SAVCO Christmas meeting, held on December 10, 2025 at the Juniper Bar & Grille was a joyful occasion that brought members together in a festive atmosphere. The event fostered camaraderie among attendees and highlighted the spirit of service that defines the SAVCO organization. Members reminisced about the year’s significant achievements while enjoying seasonal refreshments and music, making the gathering a memorable highlight of the holiday season.

During the evening, SAVCO demonstrated its commitment to the community by awarding a total of $12,500 to six Sedona-area nonprofit organizations. The recipients were:

    • The Hope House
    • Community Library Sedona
    • Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition
    • Project Fill the Need
    • Sedona Community Food Bank
    • Sedona Community Center

These grants underscore SAVCO’s dedication to supporting local initiatives and making a meaningful difference in the Sedona area.

The highlight of the evening was the recognition of four distinguished members, affectionately known as the “Fantastic Four.” Dan Aragaki, Al Cornell, Mike Vitek, and Frank Wirkus were celebrated for their extraordinary dedication, with a combined total of over 261 years of service to their country and community. Their contributions include:

    • Military Service: Over 43 years
    • Friends of the Forest: 84 years
    • Yavapai County Search & Rescue (YCS&R): 69 years
    • Sedona Police Volunteers: 32 years
    • Community Library Sedona: 5 years
    • SAVCO: 28 years

Their ongoing commitment sets a remarkable example for others, and as they continue their volunteer efforts, their years of service only grow.

During conversations with YCS&R members Tim Anderson and Robert Shuman, it was evident that the “Fantastic Four” are known for always answering the call, regardless of the hour. Al Cornell, in particular, has been recognized for sharing his navigation expertise with fellow YCS&R members, imparting lessons learned from years of experience.

Retired Sedona Police Volunteer supervisor Ray Schwartz noted the inseparable teamwork of Frank and Mike, especially in their roles assisting with traffic control, evidence transport, and other essential volunteer duties.

As active SAVCO members, Dan, Al, Mike, and Frank continue to inspire their peers through their unwavering willingness to tackle new and unexpected challenges. Their dedication and leadership exemplify the values of service and community, encouraging all members to follow in their footsteps.

SAVCO meets monthly on the second Thursday of the month at 6pm. January meeting will be held at the New Room located at the Sedona United Methodist Church 110 Indian Cliffs Rd Sedona AZ 86336. For more information on SAVCO visit: https://savco.org/
