SEDONA, Ariz. – The city invites the public to a Meet the Artist event on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025 from 4
to 6 p.m. at Community Library Sedona featuring Don Kennell and Lisa Adler, the creators of the Sedona
Roadrunner at the Morgan/Arrow Road roundabout. This is a chance to learn more about their inspiration,
how the Sedona Roadrunner was created and their work nationally.

The city installed their sculpture in November 2024; it features the native bird, in a naturalistic setting with
Sedona’s dramatic landscape for its backdrop. The piece stands 15-feet tall by 7-feet wide by 9-feet deep
and is made of steel, galvanized sheet metal and glass. When drivers make their way around the piece,
the sculpture acts like a zoetrope giving the impression of continuous motion.Kennell and Adler’s company,

DKLA Design, is based in Santa Fe where Kennell creates the design
drawings and leads the fabrication crew and Adler focuses on community engagement. Their impressive,
larger than life sculptures include horses, birds, dogs and interactive pieces.

If you recently moved to Sedona, you may notice that every four years, residents vote on something called Home Rule. The July 21 vote is simply about who controls Sedona’s city budget.

    No Home Rule

Home Rule allows the city government, Staff with limitations, and Council to spend any money they have on any project they want without regard to voter input.
