The JCSVV offers services and classes which are life-affirming and soul enriching. All are listed on the synagogue website, jcsvv.org. Visitors are welcome to attend services after a security check. Those who cannot attend in person can access the service through zoom. See the website for schedule of the remaining High Holy Day services. Guests who buy High Holy Day tickets will be eligible for a one-year membership.
The Ten Days of Awe from Rosh Hashanah through Yom Kippur continue on the evening of Friday, October 11, with a service including the haunting melody of Kol Nidre. This is a solemn time when we ask for forgiveness for ways in which we missed the mark despite good intentions. Yom Kippur services continue on Saturday, October 12 in the morning followed by a break in prayers. During the break, Paul Friedman will facilitate a discussion based on the book, Judaism Disrupted, by Michael Strassfeld. Servicex resume at 5:00 pm with Yizkor, a memorial service for all those loved ones we have lost, followed immediately by Neilah, the closing service of Yom Kippur. It is said that at this time each of us is written and then sealed in the Book of Life, or rather, as it is sometimes called, the Book of Living Fully, for this New Year 5785. A Break-the-fast meal will follow immediately after services.
Meditation class led by Rabbi Magal and Rosalie Malter will be held on Wednesday, October 16 at 4:00 pm on zoom.
Torah study, led by Rabbi Magal, will be held on Thursday, October 17 at 4:00 pm on zoom. We will read and discuss the symbols of Sukkot, the Fall Harvest holiday.
The Social Action Committee is continuing to collect food for the local Sedona food pantry. Please drop off cans or boxes of non-perishable foods in the bin provided for collections in the lobby at services.
