Sedona News – With the recent completion of the Pedestrian Crossing at Oak Creek Project under State Route (SR) 179, the city welcomes the public to now enjoy the new amenity and also attend the ribbon cutting for the project on Sept. 17, 2024 at 10 am.

20240913 cityThe project consisted of constructing a 10-to-12-foot wide concrete shared-use pathway under the existing SR 179 Oak Creek bridge with the intent of providing an alternative means for pedestrians and cyclists to cross SR 179 without impeding vehicle traffic and making Sedona a more walkable and bikeable community. The pathway connects to the existing shared use pathway along SR 179 that runs all the way to the Back O’ Beyond Roundabout. Additional project work included the installation of decorative hardscape and landscape features and low-level lighting.

The ribbon cutting will be hosted along the pathway (as shown in the map). Light refreshments will be provided. Attendees should park at the Ranger Station Park at 250 Brewer Rd. and walk over to the pathway.

The city will continue periodic testing and closures of the pedestrian crossing on top of the SR 179 roadway, to assess the benefits to traffic alleviation during peak travel times.

Have been down there frequently, was there yesterday as well. Workers were doing some final touches yesterday but stated it was finished. Looks great but I’m certain there will be nothing but whiney complaints about it as there are about anything and everything the city government attempts to do to increase the functionality of the Sedona.

Accusations will fly. Fingers will be pointed. Emails will be written. Complaints will be filed. Welcome to another normal day in Sedona, the gripe capital of the world.
