logo_leagueofwomenvotersCamp Verde AZ (February 19, 2013) – March 12, 2013 is Primary Election Day for candidates running for Camp Verde Mayor and Town Council. The League of Women Voters of Greater Verde Valley and the Camp Verde Chamber of Commerce are hosting a Mayoral Candidates’ Forum, 6:00 to 7:25 p.m., Thursday, February 28, 2013 followed by a forum for candidates for Camp Verde Town Council from 7:30 to 8:30pm. Both forums will be held at the Camp Verde Unified School District Multi-use Complex located at 410 Camp Lincoln Rd in Camp Verde.

There are two candidates running Camp Verde Mayor – incumbent Bob Burnside and challenger Charles German. The mayoral candidates have been asked to address their reason for running mayor, their qualifications and the biggest challenge they see facing Camp Verde. In addition to the candidates giving their reason for wanting to be the mayor of Camp Verde, forum attendees will have an opportunity to pose questions to candidates about issues they feel are important to them.

The second forum will be held for the four candidates running for four seats on the Camp Verde Town Council. The candidates are incumbents Jackie Baker, Robin Whatley, and Jessie Jones; and newcomer Bradford Gordon. Since these are uncontested seats, this forum will be an informal discussion between the candidates on the challenge and opportunities they see facing Camp Verde. And forum attendees will have an opportunity to pose questions to candidates about issues they feel are important to them.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
