Prescott News – Arizona Philharmonic is excited to launch its seventh season on September 8 with “Passion, Peace, and Power,” a concert featuring the sublime artistry of violinist Dr. Katherine McLin and the AZ Phil orchestra. Maestro Peter Bay, Music Director and Conductor of the Austin Symphony Orchestra and Conductor of the Bravo! Big Sky Classical Festival Orchestra in Montana, will return for his seventh season of leading Arizona Philharmonic. The performance will be held at 3 p.m. at the Ruth Street Theater on the Prescott High School grounds (1050 Ruth St, Prescott, AZ 86301), with a pre-concert talk at 2 p.m.
One of the highlights of “Passion, Peace and Power” is Felix Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto in E Minor,” a piece brimming with joy and virtuosity. The program will also include the serene “Pastorale été” by Arthur Honegger, and Haydn’s sophisticated “Symphony No. 92 in G Major.”
The fourth work will come from a composer likely new to Prescott. “In collaborating on this program, I wanted to include a living or female composer, something unique and enjoyable for our audiences,” commented Henry Flurry, AZ Phil’s Founder and Artistic Director. “In response, Peter introduced me to Gwyneth Walker, a living woman composer I did not know. Her piece, ‘Fanfare, Interlude, and Finale,’ written in 1980, is a delightful and beautiful work of vibrant energy.”
