… I simply could not make myself set my alarm to 2:45A, so set it to 3A this morning and out of the house, picked up my friend at 4A and it was down to the lake. On the way down we wonder what if any birds we will see and, on the way, home we’re thinking about the shots of the day and as with the two shots below, sometimes you just don’t know.
The shot above is one of the Bald Eagles that fledged last week … she is beautiful, and I like this perched pose more than the inflight photos that I also got … youth and near perfection!
Below are two shots 1/20th of a second apart. A Great Egret was perched in a tree offshore and appeared to be eating bugs from the tree. Because of the very small subject matter I had no idea if I got anything until reaching home and uploading the images. Also, we were fairly close so I was shooting at 200 mm so that if it took off, I wouldn’t be clipping wings in the frame. In the first frame you can see that she is attacking a Damsel Fly and in the second shot, the damsel is secured and part of it is sticking out of the mouth/beak just forward and below the eye.
Been up since 3AM so need to shut it down … up on the tram at Glendon’s by 6AM in the morning, Keep smiling and keep breathing … life is so beautiful!
Cheers,
Ted

… Let me not follow the clamor of the world, but
walk calmly in my path. Give me a few friends who
will love me for what I am; and keep ever burning
before my vagrant steps the kindly light of hope.
And though age and infirmity overtake me, and
I come not within sight of the castle of my dreams,
teach me still to be thankful for life, and for time’s
olden memories that are good and sweet; and
may the evening’s twilight find me gentle still.
