Verde Valley News – The theme for the 2024 Summer Reading Program (SRP) is Adventure Begins at Your Library. The Children’s Library and Teen Library have put together 6 weeks of activities designed to encourage summer reading and help children keep learning through hands-on, informal STEM activities that promote creativity, problem-solving, and discovery.

The Children’s Librarian, Ms. Letty, has ordered many new books in preparation for summer reading. Children can check out books in the Children’s Library and will never be charged overdue fees for returning them late. Books and other library material can be dropped off at the drive-by Book Return any time day or night.

The season kicks-off on Saturday, June 1st at 10:00a in Camp Verde Community Library’s Terracotta Room with informational booths and activities from local organizations. Organizations attending will be Out of Africa Wildlife Park, Red Rock State Park, Rockin’ River Ranch State Park, Fort Verde State Park, and Horses with Heart. This will provide an opportunity to showcase that “Adventure Begins at Your Library” but continues right here in the Verde Valley! Sign up for Summer Reading and join us for grilled hotdogs and snacks.

Children ages 0-11 are invited to participate in age-appropriate weekly activities starting June 4.

In addition to weekly Game Nite, Zack has put together the following summer programs in keeping with the 2024 Summer Reading Program (SRP) theme, Adventure Begins at Your Library:

Minecraft Book Club – Begins Friday, May 17th @1:00p: This program is specifically for Tweens ages 9-12. Tweens will get a chance to bring a story world to life, from the pages of a book to the environment of Minecraft! For this program, participants will be reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians #1: The Lightning Thief. Join Percy as he and his friends travel from Camp Half-Blood to the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and back, as they try to clear Percy’s name and uncover who stole Zeus’s Master Bolt. This program ends June 21st. Register on the Library’s Events calendar at https://yavapai.events/event/minecraft-book-club-4

Teen Crafts – Begins Monday, June 3 @11:00a: Teens are invited to team up with Zack and the Verde Youth Action Alliance (VYAA) for an artsy afternoon. Join us in the Teen Library for these engaging sessions running through July 8th.

Disc Golf Basics – Begins Tuesday, June 04 @8:00a Teens learn the basics of how to play disc golf. Join Zack at Rezzonico Family Park to learn the basics of the game. Each week we will add a new skill, including putting, driving, stance, grips, and more, playing mini-games throughout. Then, on the sixth week, we will play a 9-hole round at the newly created Camp Verde Disc Golf Course! Register on the Library’s Events calendar at https://yavapai.events/event/disc-golf-basics-5
