    … and what a week it has been so far … most of it spent in nature exploring the back waters of Lake Pleasant searching for wildlife … even better finding it in abundance!

    The top photo is of a Gilded Flicker that decided to play with us for a while at the end of a very narrow finger of water about a mile in from the main lake. We first spotted him perched on top of a Saguaro Cactus above the little canyon we were in, thence to a branch close to us and then down to the water for a drink. A week ago, this area was dry but now we had a couple of feet of water that allowed us to go back in there. About another eight to ten feet of water yo be added to the lake level, so who knows what else we may discover.

    The next photo I took yesterday of an adult Bald Eagle taking off from a perch above the northern most part of Castle Hot Springs Bay that we can reach now … a few more weeks and we’ll be back in a forested area when there is an abundance of songbirds. Last week we saw the same eagle with about a two-pound bass in his talons landing on the rock and literally rip into her meal … Kids have all hatched in the eagle nests and lots of food required daily.

    Below is a shot I took after getting home yesterday of a Coopers Hawk in our Pinion Pine in the backyard. He did not look happy and was probably upset because the deer had knocked all of my birdseed out of the bird feeder … this meant no songbirds coming into feed which meant no food for him since birds are a primary source of food for Coopers Hawks. We feed the whole food chain here! I filled the bird feeder shortly after this episode.

    Have a beautiful day and seek beauty … it is all around us and we do find what we seek! Smile, keep breathing and choose to enjoy the day.

    Cheers,

    When age has come, to-morrow
    You’ll speak with God to leave some kindly deeds
    Writ by your name that softened selfish creeds
    Of man’s slow moving love of brotherhood,
    That brought new hope to them who near you stood
    In life’s dark streets or sunlit meads.
    To-morrow you’ll ask God for better deeds.

    To-morrow, O to-morrow!
    Fast fall the fading years. A thought, a dream
    Of gentle words; of faith and love a theme;
    A smile, a step or two, and all is done.
    Quick is the veering stream of life full run;
    Yet in the crimson west still a gleam
    To-morrow and to-morrow’s endless dream.
