During National Adoption Week, the Humane Society of Sedona invites pet lovers to make room in their homes for pets in need. PetSmart Charities is celebrating its 30th anniversary and encourages people to consider finding room in their hearts and homes for “long timers” – animals who have been in the shelter’s care for over 30 days. HSS will be running the following adoption specials all week long on “long timer” animals.

    Reduced adoption fees will be:

    • Adult Dog (long timers): $0-$25
    • Adult Cat (long timers): $0-25
    • Puppies (long timers): $75

To view all available pets for adoption, please visit www.humanesocietyofsedona.org/adopt

“PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week can be the perfect chance to give a pet in need what they need most – people to love,” said Heidi Marston, director of pet placement at PetSmart Charities. “With so many shelters across the nation struggling to keep pace with the number of animals in need of care, adopting a new pet makes an impact on the health of your community, too.

PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week is a special time during the year. PetSmart stores feature adoptable pets to meet and cuddle in spacious areas, and staff and volunteers are on-hand to make introductions and answer questions. Potential pet parents can also learn about the products and services they’ll need for the best possible start with their new family members.

    WHEN/WHERE:

Adoptable pets will be available at the following times and PetSmart locations:

    Sedona Gift Shop

    • March 22, 23, 24 from 10am-2pm
    • PetSmart Sedona – 2356 W State Route 89A, Sedona, AZ 86336
    • The Humane Society of Sedona – 2115 Shelby Drive, Sedona, AZ 86336

Adoptable pets will be available to meet all week long by appointment at the shelter. Please call 928-282-4679 to schedule.

    About PetSmart Charities
PetSmart Charities is committed to making the world a better place for pets and all who love them. Through its in-store adoption program in all PetSmart® stores across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, PetSmart Charities helps up to 400,000 pets connect with loving families each year. PetSmart Charities also provides grant funding to support organizations that advocate and care for the well-being of all pets and their families. Each year, millions of generous supporters help pets in need by donating to PetSmart Charities directly at PetSmartCharities.org, while shopping at PetSmart.com, and by using the PIN pads at checkout registers inside PetSmart® stores. In turn, PetSmart Charities efficiently uses more than 90 cents of every dollar donated to fulfill its role as the leading funder of animal welfare in North America, granting more than $500 million since its inception in 1994. Independent from PetSmart LLC, PetSmart Charities is a 501(c)(3) organization that has received the Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator for the past 18 years in a row – placing it among the top one percent of rated charities. If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
