… it was a beautiful day on Lake Pleasant today … lots of sunshine and wildlife on and around the lake … everyone seemed to be enjoying the early taste of Spring like weather. Nesting has begun and eggs are being laid in nests … the lake is back on the ride and projections from Central Arizona Project show a 23-foot rise in the lake level by mid-May. Check the website out and learn more about this exceptional asset we all enjoy.

The photo above is of a great blue heron enjoying a late breakfast … we were heading directly at him sitting on the end of a little sand spit near shore, he spooked, flew about 50′ and came down and speared this fish as he landed … another heron decided he wanted the fish and some hijinks occurred, but this guy managed to keep his catch and he swallowed it as soon as he could.

Our Great Horned Owl is back in the cavity in the cliff which they use as their nest almost every year. CAP projects that the lake will be up 23 feet by May which means we will get a look almost even with the nest. The plan is to document the family again this year and also the Redtails in the Lower Loop area of Sedona.

Many, many more photos from today … perhaps a few more will be sent out next week. Into the weekend and wishing you a weekend full of joy!

    Smiles,

    Ted

I sat with the stars on the hill of life
And looked at the world below.
Iran with the winds where winds begin
And followed them where they blow.

I lay by the sea on the beaten rock
    And rode the farthest wave,
I watched by a child on its night of birth
And followed it to its grave.

And love in the still of the star-flecked night,
When earth was all strewn with gold,
Has lifted my heart like the chords of song
Oft sung in the worlds of old.

And though I have not understood all this,
Made up a laugh and a wail,
I think the God of the world knows all,
And someday will tell the tale.
