Verde Valley News – They are forty-six people – all men – whose character, backgrounds and vision reflect the nation they served. A study of these remarkable individuals tells us much about who we are, and where we’re headed as a nation. A day after President’s Day, Yavapai College’s Verde Valley OLLI Program hosts distinguished historian Jim Molan, with fresh and intriguing insights on “The President’s Club,” Tuesday, February 20, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on YC’s Verde Valley Campus.

The real “President’s Club” is the world’s most exclusive fraternity. It was established when President Harry Truman enlisted the knowledge and counsel of former President Herbert Hoover to help rebuild Europe after World War II. Since then, nearly every sitting president has sought the advice of his predecessors, forming a brotherhood whose members are bound by their shared experience in the Oval Office. Jim Molans’ presentation will examine how this phenomenon has impacted the course of history, including wars, politics and diplomacy.

Jim Molans graduated cum laude from the University of Miami with a major in Government, a minor in History, and a law degree. A recipient of the League of Women Voters, Greater Verde Valley, 2019 Civic Engagement Leader Award, Jim has been active in local issues and political campaigns. He has facilitated OLLI classes at for over 11 years, leading explorations of the U.S. Constitution, the Revolutionary War, and in-depth studies on several of our founding fathers.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
