The Sedona Women (TSW) will be receiving an update on the status of Sedona’s efforts to match with a sister city or cities as the TSW kickoff  2024 program on Thursday, January 11 at the Sedona Public Library.  TSW programs are scheduled monthly from September through May.

Chuck Marr & Judy Neiman will share & report on Sedona’s Sister Cities Association.

Sister Cities is an International organization, founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956, and serves as a powerful vehicle for fostering global understanding and peace.

There are more than 500 U.S. Sister City relationships in 138 nations, the organization plays a crucial role in connecting municipalities and communities worldwide.

Arizona, with thirteen cities and 56 foreign city partners, actively participates in this international network.

One key feature that sets Sister Cities apart is the formal linkage it establishes between U.S. municipalities and foreign counterparts through intercity agreements. These agreements, signed by respective mayors and ratified by city councils, serve as the foundation for meaningful relationships and exchanges.

The Sedona Sister Cities Association, a volunteer-driven initiative, is in the process of establishing Sister City Agreements in Canada, Ireland and Poland. Sister Cities initiatives are driven by the creativity and imagination of citizens.

Examples from various cities showcase the diverse range of exchanges, such as Tempe, Arizona’s Professional Exchange Program with Regensburg, Germany, enabling professionals to swap roles for a month. Similarly, Aspen Sister Cities facilitates a regular medical exchange and ski patrol program with Bariloche, Argentina.

The potential impact of a Sedona Sister Cities Association is vast, encompassing various sectors within the Verde Valley community. The envisioned exchanges and shared programs span education, arts, youth, government, business, health, environment, and communications.

The Sedona community is poised to contribute significantly to the global network of Sister Cities, furthering the organization’s mission of promoting peace through international connections.

The Sedona Women (a 501c.3) have been sponsoring monthly program meetings, hosting social events and trips for members, as well as doing many hands-on projects to benefit the Sedona community for over 20 years. This program is open to the public on Thursday October 12th at the Sedona Public Library, 3250 White Bear Road in West Sedona. A  meet and greet will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the program and Q&A at 10 a.m.
