Sedona News – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present “Postcards from the Edge” on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre.
“Postcards from the Edge” is the third film in a month-long tribute to Meryl Streep with a special “Meryl-thon” series in August featuring a different Meryl Streep film each week.
“Postcards from the Edge” features an award-winning ensemble cast including Meryl Streep, Shirley MacLaine, Dennis Quaid, Gene Hackman, Richard Dreyfuss and Rob Reiner.
Streep was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her role in “Postcards from the Edge”. MacLaine received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and the film received both an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song for “I’m Checking Out”.
Based on the actress Carrie Fisher’s bestselling autobiographical novel, “Postcards from the Edge” is a wickedly witty expose of the life in the Hollywood fast lane.
Hollywood actress Suzanne Vale (Streep) is on a slippery slope as a recovering addict, looking to jump start her failing career. On exit from rehab, it is recommended she stay with her mother Doris (MacLaine), who has become somewhat of a champion drinker herself.
Such a set-up is bad news for her as she has struggled for years to get out of Doris’ shadow, who still treats her like a child. Suzanne therefore struggles to maintain her sobriety and her sanity in the company of Doris.
MacLaine offers the definitive portrait of Hollywood’s gutsy glamour queens in scenes spiked with razor-edged humour and searing honesty.
The all-star cast offers a bird’s-eye view of Hollywood’s has-beens and wanna-bes. Funny and uncompromising, “Postcards From The Edge” dishes the Tinseltown dirt with style and wit, serving up a delicious behind-the-scenes comedy that no film lover can resist.
