Sedona AZ (December 31, 2012) – Two novel writing courses are now forming – a beginner’s course and an intermediate course (for writers who have a work-in-progress) – both taught by award-winning author and writing instructor, Kris Neri.
Each course will last six weeks, with each class going for 2.5 hours, beginning on Friday, January 18. The beginner’s classes start at 1:00 pm and the intermediate classes start at 9:30 am. All classes for both courses will be held at The Well Red Coyote bookstore in West Sedona. The fee for either course is $99.
The beginner’s course will cover such topics as structure, setting, characterization, point-of-view, pacing, writing effective scenes, and many others, and will include Neri’s proprietary hand-outs and special reading materials.
There will be little lecture content in the intermediate course, and what lecture refreshers that are offered will key off the craft-related needs of the class members. Instead, instructor feedback will be offered for in-class presentations and strategies will be offered for storyline challenges that arise as students’ novels progress. Neri will also read and provide feedback on pages between classes.
Kris Neri writes the Lefty Award-nominated Magical Mystery series, High Crimes on the Magical Plane and Magical Alienation, as well as the Agatha, Anthony, Macavity, Lefty Award-nominated Tracy Eaton mystery series. She has written two standalone thrillers and has published over sixty short stories, including two Derringer Award winners and two Pushcart Prize nominees. Magical Alienation recently won the New Mexico/Arizona Book Award for Best Fantasy Novel of 2012.
Neri teaches writing online for the Writers’ Program of the UCLA Extension School, and is co-owner of The Well Red Coyote.
Her novel writing course is a shortened version of her very popular 10-week online course through UCLA. Although the online course fee is several hundred dollars, she is offering this special local course for only $99, payable before the first class.
