Friends and Fellow Survivors of the End of the World!

News in from friends in England: Prime Meridian, GMT +0:00 its 10:00 PM and the world still exists… so they think. They just happen to live close to Stonehenge. This is another fortunate circumstance and solid indicator. If the world had ended – surely it would have ended at Stonehenge first… Right?

“Alexandra! That stone on the left there. Yes, that third stone – I swear it’s tipped more than it’s supposed to be!”

“Calm yourself, Dear – the only thing in danger of tipping over this evening is you and that glass in your hand.”

Near as they can tell, Stonehenge still stands – gravity has not been suspended and the local whiskey still tastes like… whiskey. That – it is thought – is enough to keep a world running and I am inclined to agree.

!hgual a evah dna eno tsioh ot emit – !oS . That was a test. Written backwards – that sentence appears – still appears – to be written backwards! And if you can read it backwards – you’ve either not started drinking or are still eligible for another. So… if whiskey stays in your glass until you intentionally tip it up to drink… and it tastes like whiskey when you do – and backwards does not appear to be forward and Stonehenge survived to amaze us on yet another day. I think we are safe!

Yes – I mean no. These were not scientific tests. I just made them up on the spot, thinking it wise to check before assuming safety. Maybe I should have thought up something using mirrors. Yes, mirrors. Hmm…. Mirrors are always good for checking around the edges where worlds begin and end.

Mirror or no mirror – I think we will reflect back on this day and laugh at ourselves as we toast another – not so near – miss. Here’s to another thousand years – free from fear of coming to a sudden end at the hands of hand-less forces and mysterious circumstances! May we all live happily for as long as suits us and while we’re at it, drink enough whiskey – just enough to make us happy – not sorry.

I am so bummed the world did not end. I am tempted to not pay any attention to any more predictions from an extinct civilization.

Sorry to have been the barer of bad news. But then, had things come to a sudden halt you might have still been hanging around, by some
slim thin thread with nothing to bitch about. See – the silver lining!
