Osher Lifelong Learning Institue OnlineClarkdale AZ (August 31, 2020) – Yavapai College Lifelong Learning programs have implemented new services and procedures to help you continue to explore and flourish as you take courses online via Zoom technology, all designed to enhance your life. Don’t let COVID-19 interrupt your quest for greater knowledge and understanding. We appreciate that online learning might be a new experience for you, and you may not think it will be as interactive and enjoyable as face-to-face classes, but we urge you to give it a chance.

OLLI at Yavapai College is one of 124 nationally recognized lifelong learning programs located at colleges across America. OLLI Sedona•Verde Valley is where you connect with 1,000 of the most interesting, active, and involved people, 50 years old and better. The OLLI program offers one-time workshops and 4- or 5-week non-credit courses year-round. Class topics include History, Current Affairs, Finance, Self-Enrichment, Computer, Health & Nutrition, and much more.

OLLI classes cover traditional college subjects as well as the eclectic, with a diversity of topics in between. Course offerings range from short one-day workshops to multi-week courses. No tests or grades… just the joy of learning new things. OLLI instructors are educators, professionals, and hobbyists – individuals who have deep knowledge of and passion for their topics.

Sedona•Verde Valley classes start after Labor Day on September 14 and conclude before Thanksgiving on November 20. This Fall Term, two five-week sessions are offered: Session 1: Sepember 14 – October 16 and Session 2: October 19 – November 20. What is exciting about the Fall Term is that we are also able to offer all the courses from the Prescott OLLI, giving you even more choices.

People like OLLI because it’s a friendly and engaging community. Class content is carefully selected to be relevant, current, and stimulating for adult learners. If you would like to know how to use Zoom to take OLLI courses, contact us and we will send you the link for the next Zoom training session; it’s easy and it’s fun. The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
