logo_KSBSedona AZ (May 30, 2013) – Please join Keep Sedona Beautiful at its Speaker Series on Wednesday, June 12 to discover how to proactively landscape your property to protect it from potential wildfires. The evening will begin at 5:30 pm, with complimentary offerings of appetizers donated by El Rincon Restaurante Mexicano and refreshments provided by KSB. The presentation will begin at 5:45 pm.

photo_markdilucidoDefensible space educator Mark Di Lucido conducts programs that teach home and private property owners how to create and maintain wildfire defensible landscapes. His programs highlight the correct use of fire resistive plant materials, landscape design, local fire department requirements, vegetation management, and incorporate a holistic approach that includes other related techniques such as rainwater harvesting, erosion and sedimentation prevention, plant health, and habitat preservation.

Mark formerly worked as the Community Wildfire Protection Specialist at the University of Arizona’s Yavapai County Cooperative Extension in Prescott. His collaborations with the Prescott Area Wildland Urban Interface Commission, local fire departments, land management agencies, and organizations across Yavapai County provided homeowners located in the wildland-urban-interface scientifically based knowledge and strategies to help them install and maintain attractive landscapes that are compatible with defensible space principles. He currently works as the Community Design and Redevelopment Administrator for the City of Flagstaff. Mark is a registered landscape architect with over 20 years’ experience in Arizona and the Four Corners Region of the Intermountain West.

Keep Sedona Beautiful welcomes the community and visitors alike to its monthly Preserving the Wonder™ Speaker Series, which takes place at its historic Pushmataha Center on 360 Brewer Road in Sedona. Please note that the Speaker Series is now held the second Wednesday each month from September to June, beginning at 5:30 pm with refreshments. The series presents an interesting diversity of programs relevant to the unique environment of our region.
