logo_verdevalleyfiredistrictCottonwood AZ (May 28, 2015) – Early  morning on the 28th, 0230 hours VVFD responded to a residential fire on the 3400 block of Colorado Drive in Cottonwood.  Upon arrival the first engine company reported smoke showing and upgraded to a working fire.  All occupants were awakened by the smoke detectors and all evacuated safely, however two were transported for smoke inhalation as they attempted to extinguish the fire themselves.

The quick response and strategic plan by the fire crews allowed for an offensive mode and the fire was contained to a bedroom and content.  Fire and water damage was extensive to the room of origin and smoke damage throughout.  The family will have a place to stay until American Red Cross (VIA TIPS) steps in to provide further support.  VVFD was assisted by Cottonwood FD, Verde Valley Ambulance Company, YCSO, and Trauma Intervention Program (TIP).  No injuries to first responders.

A reminder to community is never try to put out a large fire on your own, instead call 911 and once you get out, stay out and wait for the firefighter to arrive.  Always have good working smoke detectors.  It was obvious how smoke detectors saved lives of this home owner and their family.

Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
