    … apples in Filoli this year and if the number of blooms means anything there will be a lot of apples. I really got lucky on this trip to Filoli with sun two days in a row and the daffodils and tulips were prime to just past prime … the apple blooms were definitely prime!

    I took this shot with the Canon 5D MK IV and the Canon 100 macro at f/18 and shutter speed of 1/320th of a second. ISO was set to 200. I believe I shot it from less than a foot so the depth of field was diminimus and yet the blooms and all their parts are in sharp focus; perhaps it is just a commentary on how small the blooms are.

    I’m giving a presentation at the Sedona Gem and Mineral Club tonight, March 18th ; location is the Sedona Public Library in West Sedona. If you are interested in the club, perhaps you can come out and meet and talk to the members. I believe they have a business meeting around 6:00P and then I will be speaking at 7:00P. I’ll be talking about the challenges of cutting large gem opal and go through the process from start to finish along with marked up photos of a large stone that I cut a couple of years ago. I’ve been doing photography since I was eight years old and took up gem cutting at age 39 … love them both!

    Time for some rest before the daily flow of caffeine begins. Have a beautiful day and allow yourself to be filled by wonder at the beauty of this little planet and all of the good people in all of our days.

    Smile and keep breathing!

    I bring but this one common thought, my life has wrought;
    That from the dregs of drear despair, still everywhere
    There is a joy I yet may sip – Tis comradeship
    With all mankind, the high and low
    I know.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
    Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
