… one of the key elements of photographic art is the skill of cropping an image. For a lot of the wildlife photography I do, my crops will normally include the entire creature, but there are those times when you delve more into the purity of art and showcase just a portion of the creature and obtain some very powerful and dramatic effects that you do not otherwise get.
A good friend of mine focuses on the crop in his images for the purpose of creating very dramatic images and he reminds me from time to time on the benefits of going for the pure art … forms, shapes, lines, power and creativity in presenting an image. His name is Paul Kanter and many of his images are on display at Mesa Grill at the Sedona Airport … next time you head up there for some great dining, check his art out and buy a piece or two and also check out his web presence by clicking on his name.
So I took the crop tool to a couple of shots from Monday down at the lake and this is what I came up with. Above is a very powerful image of a Bald Eagle coming off the cliff … the talons on her feet are a good two inches in length, but curled up for now and her focus is amazing and her body appears to be part of the airfoil.
The photo of the Great Blue Heron below has you flying wing position as she cruises across the lake … kinda like the view USAF Thunderbird and USN Blue Angel pilots have of each other as they are performing their aerobatic routines.

In addition to sales of photographs already taken Ted does special shoots for patrons on request and also does air-to-air photography for those who want photographs of their airplanes in flight. All special photographic sessions are billed on an hourly basis.
