    … early this morning I headed down to Lake Pleasant to spend a quiet day on the lake and as always to search for life and photograph what I found. It was a busy morning and lots of life.

    In these three photographs all of the subjects are reaching for the sky … leaping and stretching their wings to begin the first of many powerful beats; first to attain flight and then to maintain it and go somewhere.The feet of the Great Blue Heron above are just about to leave the water and both eagle shots show the talons just breaking free of the rock perch they were on.

    The first eagle below is a juvenile and the one below it is an adult male. Bald Eagles do not display the iconic white head and tail feathers until they are about five years old.

    Off to shoot flowers again in the morning and possibly a return to the lake on Friday … the Saguaro Cacti are in bloom and are beautiful.

    Have a beautiful day … find joy in your daily visit here!

    Cheers,

    Ted

    Though the world knows me not, may my thoughts
    and actions be such as shall keep me friendly with
    myself. Lift my eyes from the earth, and let me not
    forget the uses of the stars.

    Give me a few friends who will love me for what I am;
    and keep ever burning before my vagrant steps the
    kindly light of hope.

    Short Term Rentals — Some Thoughts to Consider

    By Steve Segner
    Reports of Sedona’s death have been greatly exaggerated. There is no question that Short Term Rentals (STR) have changed the character of housing in Sedona. In past years, Sedona homes owned by out-of-towners were rented to locals at fair or below-market prices, and this market subsidy was advantageous for both renter and owner. The renter could rent a lovely home in a tourist town. The homeowner received rent to help pay for their future home with a caretaker to look after their investment. This symbiotic relationship worked for both parties, especially for Sedona’s business. When the state of Arizona passed SB-1350 in 2016, it changed this relationship. Now the homeowner could hire a professional company to manage and rent out their home as a STR and make enough to pay for the mortgage with a little (sometimes a lot) leftover, and the local governments can do nothing to stop it. Sedona lost workforce housing and long-term neighbors. Read more→
