… on another January day not that long ago I was in the air getting shots of the peaks and the lenticular clouds some miles behind it formed by the wave coming off the peaks. Conditions were perfect for the formation of the wave … a stable air mass a few hundred feet above the surface and very high winds aloft. You can see the outrageous plums of snow coming off the peaks … excellent orographic lift in front of the peaks as the mountain bent the wind from horizontal to vertical and as it raced over the top of the peak, part of it headed down the backside heating up and when it hit the stable air mass above the ground it ricocheted upward again and formed a sine wave type of airflow as it continued downwind from the peaks … the lenticular cloud is just behind the wave and at about 25,000′. I would have enjoyed heading over there and getting into it, but there was not time as I took this shot at 5:07 PM on January 8th … so I just appreciated it as I finished up the afternoons photo shoot. Understanding wave flying!

The lake in the photo is Rogers Lake, now more of a wetlands than full time lake which it used to be … The lesser mountain on the right side of the peaks is Mt. Elden … US 89 heads N going to the right behind Elden … I put a photo of that area out within the past week. It was a fabulous day to be in the air!

Below is a shot of a Greenhead Mallard dropping into a pond down at Bubbling Ponds Fishery in Page Springs … also an early January shot … mallards are kind of everywhere and thus a lot of photographers don’t spend much time shooting them, but they are incredibly beautiful birds.

That’s it for the week … its a treat getting the cooler weather … the freshness of the air and invigorating chill being out in it. Have a wonder filled day, keep breathing, smile and be kind! We are here … really! … and the plan is to be back Monday morning 🙂

    Cheers,

    Ted

A bird flies through the sky and I fly with it. I am in
each pearl of moisture sparkling in the Sun. I lie lazy
on the clouds. And I acknowledge my kinship with
    each winged thing.

I see all as one, and nothing repels me, as this new\
day climbs noiselessly out of the valley of night.

Peace lies over the world and over the world of my
    soul.

It Takes a Lifetime and Sometimes Even More

    By Amaya  Gayle

Sedona, AZ — It takes a lifetime (perhaps lifetimes) of stretching and expanding, ripping and tearing, just to move through one’s predispositions, to meet one’s inbred resistance and evolve to the grace of simple tolerance. During this precious part of the journey, it feels like you are taking the steps, are choosing right, left or straight ahead, that you are in the game.
