… I checked out the lakes up on the plateau while flying last Friday and there is a lot of water in all of them. I was especially pleased to see so much water in Stoneman Lake and attached is a photo I took of it.  Stoneman lake can be accessed from I-17 north of the Sedona exit and it is well marked and good road all the way into it. I was told that Lower Lake Mary is being stocked with fish and given that it is normally nearly dry there must be some confidence that it will have water into and possibly through the summer. There are still some good sized snow banks in the forest too.

A relatively quiet week coming up … some boating and flying … time with friends and alone … and a resumption of teaching on Friday. If you are inclined, Wayne Ranney, is giving a three hour presentation on the geology of Sedona; an OLLI presentation at the Sedona Campus on SR 89A. Not sure what you do to register for it, but I’m planning on being there. Wayne’s presentations are not only informative, but enjoyable.

Time to wrap what has been a wonderful Easter weekend. Have a beautiful day today and keep breathing … even if you, like me, rely on Zyrtec to do so during the high pollen period of the year.

    Cheers

    Ted

… I am sitting by an open window.
Everything is still, and the soft night air is cool.
The sky seems very near, and the stars lie over the heavens like fields of daisies stretching on and on.
The moon is passing in and out of the clouds, making a shadow checkered day of the night, and breaking the sky with shafts of gold.
All silent, the universe is doing its work … beautiful, mysterious, religious!
What was all the jargon about a few hours ago?

The Sad Lesson of Tyre Nichols
    By Tommy Acosta
Having grown up in the mean streets of the Bronx there is one lesson we learn early on, and that’s don’t mess with the cops when they got you down, and outnumbered. The beating of Tyre Nichols at the hands of the police preceding his death at the hospital could have been avoided if only he had the sense to not resist them. People fail to understand that on the streets, cops are basically “God.” You can’t fight them. If it takes one, two, five, ten or twenty officers they will eventually put you down and hurt you if they have to in the process of detaining or arresting you. In the Bronx we would fight amongst ourselves but when the cops came it was “Yes, officer. No, officer,” and do our best to look as innocent as possible. People need to understand that cops on the street represent the full power of the state and government. Read more→
