… daily we experience blessings, some big some not so big, but they are there. For me, one of the biggest blessings is the text conversation that begins in the morning when Sus, Jogi and I say good morning to each other and then continue throughout the day, engaging in a conversation about things in our days … and then a final wrap on the day. One daughter lives on the west coast and one on the east coast, and me here in Arizona, yet the sense of closeness is as real as if we lived in the same town. Technology is great and while some use it as a way to distance themselves from those they are physically close to, it is a terrific way for family like ours to be close.

I’ve been going through more photographs from earlier years than I have been taking lately and I came on this one I took in September of 2014; an aerial shot of Sedona, looking to the NW from about 10,000’. The sky was filled with beautiful clouds and earths surface a patchwork of cloud shadows … sunlight illuminating the rocks. In the lower left is Bell Rock and Courthouse Rock just to the right of it. SR 179 wends its way N from the village, just to the left of Bell Rock, continues through the wilderness area, then the Chapel area, and into west Sedona at the Y where SR 89A and SR 179 meet at the traffic circle. The airport is just left of center mid photo and West Sedona is behind it, then Thunder Mountain and behind that Long Canyon. Cathedral Rock is above Bell Rock on the very edge.

One of the Christmas emails I received from a friend had one of the nicest  messages in it I have received, so I want to share it with you. It can be signed in any way a person wants, but this choice, as would any choice, works okay with me. We are a diverse species with diverse beliefs, but this thought covers it all and is something we can all cherish and share. So here it is and author unknown:

“Ted, no matter what your faith is or is not, no matter where in the world you are, I want you to know that during this holiday season I’ll be with you. In the eyes of every child and the melody of every song. I’ll be the glimmer in the ice crystals, the rays in the sun, and the stars at night. And with each smile you see, every hug you receive, and every laugh you hear, I’ll be there, reaching out through another, with blessings and tidings to last you the year. Not because it’s Christmas, but because I love you, always have, always will. And these things are true every day of your life.” — The Universe

A new week is underway and may yours be filled with blessings.

    Smile

For a few hours here in the still morning I wash myself clean of civilization, and purge myself of things and the accumulated rubbish of time.
I push back history, dismiss interpreters, and stand erect before the dawn, looking the universe in the face, and asking my own questions.
Tomorrow I shall return to the human wheels; but now I defy the world of customs and laws, of sophistry and serfdom; and I yield myself childlike
to the light and the air and the sweet scented dew.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
