… our friends with wings display a wonderful beauty when they are perched and waiting for a reason to fly, but the true beauty occurs when they leave the perch and enter flight. They have complete control over each flight feather as well as their ability to shape the airfoil of their wings. Each flight feather is controlled to provide maximum control over flight, take off and landing … sudden alterations in flight path when in pursuit of prey.

In the top photo we have an adult Bald Eagle on his way to a quiet bay in search of food … below we have a hen Merganser on her take off run from very quiet water at Lake Pleasant. Both of these birds are fish eaters, but there is big difference in the size of the fish consumed.

On Friday July 29th and Sunday July 31st, Michele will have a table at the Hummingbird Festival located in the Performing Arts Center 995 Upper Red Rock Loop Rd, Sedona, AZ 86336. She will be there between the hours of 12N and 1:30 in the afternoon on those two days. I will be there helping her and also handling Enedina, her new Saker Falcon that is joining the flying team of IRFC. Saker falcons are a large falcon and can reach very high speeds, second only to the Peregrine Falcon, which can clock speeds over 180 mph in a dive … the Saker falcon can clock speeds of 150 mph in a dive … think of it, bone, flesh and feathers at 150 mph!

Hope to see you Friday or Sunday … into the weekend for me and the plan as always is to return Monday morning and I will have photos of Enedina (the Saker Falcon) to show you.

Cheers, smile and give thanks for the privilege of being here … really, how awesome it is to be alive … to witness the beauty of creation and share it it with friends and family.

    Smiles,

    Ted

Sweet summer, may I sing as thou, for every
leaf of thine is pregnant with music in the soft
winds, and every rose inspires the tenderness
of song. I yield myself to the thousand
enchantments of sky and field and wood,
and play again like a child on the soft green
    of the earth.

    What Would I Change?
    By Amaya Gayle Gregory

What would I change if I could? You and I both know I can’t, but it’s a fun exercise anyway. I would have been less of a know-it-all on my spiritual journey. It seems to be a side-effect of the path. Spiritual folks develop an all-knowing buffer to protect against their inevitable surrender to the unknown, but understanding that now didn’t make it gentler on me or those I loved, let alone those that I deemed not capable of getting it 😉 Yeah … I’d have dropped the spiritual snob act. I’d have recognized that spiritual radicals are only different on the outside from radical right Christians, and that the surface doesn’t really matter as much as I thought. We are all doing our couldn’t be otherwise things, playing our perfect roles. I’d have learned to bow down humbly before my fellow man, regardless of whether I agreed with him or not. We’re all in this together and not one of us will get out alive. Read more→
