SEDONA, Ariz. – The city of Sedona translated two essential public documents: the Sedona Community Plan and the Emergency Evacuation and Re-Entry Plan, into Spanish to ensure broader access to critical information for its Spanish-speaking residents.
The once every 10-year Community Plan is an all-encompassing guideline that dictates the community’s vision and goals. Completed most recently in 2024, the Spanish and English versions of the Community Plan can we found at www.sedonaaz.gov/communityplan.
Sedona’s Emergency Evacuation and Re-Entry Plan was published in 2023 and models evacuation scenarios and establishes responsibilities for evacuation and re-entry operations. Read the Spanish and English versions of the Emergency Evacuation and Re-Entry Plan at www.sedonaaz.gov/emergencymanagement.
“Drafting the city’s Emergency Evacuation and Reentry Plan was a crucial element of the emergency preparedness efforts for our community; however, this element was not complete without the Spanish translation of this document. We encourage all of our residents to review the Emergency Evacuation and Re-Entry Plan so they can be prepared to take action when an emergency situation and/or evacuation occurs,” said Chief of Police Stephanie Foley.
According to the last census in 2020, 18% of Sedona residents selected Spanish as their primary language. While the city website can be translated using Google Translate, that feature doesn’t translate documents posted to the website.
This translation effort by the city’s Sustainability Department is part of its initiative to make access to city resources and information more equitable.

Home Rule allows the city government, Staff with limitations, and Council to spend any money they have on any project they want without regard to voter input.
