    2nd Annual Earth Day Celebration

    logo_sedonarecyclesSedona AZ (April 14, 2016) – Sedona Recycles is hosting their second annual Earth Day Celebration, taking place at the recycling center at 2280 Shelby Dr. on April 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

    Over twenty educators will have hands-on exhibits, including solar cooking, watersheds, hiking, composting, and organic gardening. Seedlings from Verde Valley School garden will be on sale. Herpetologist Russell Dunn will have live snakes for handling and teach how to recognize local species.

    Art with recycled content will be for sale and a demonstration given on making art with spray paint. Some very unique artists will have displays, such as Mary Jardin’s scrap fabric landscapes and Carl Campio’s recycled copper jewelry.  

    This is a family event with crafts and games for the kids as well as a magic show with magician Michael Steele. Verde Valley School will show their “Rags to Riches” creations in a Recycled Runway show. Learn about some of Sedona’s best kept secrets!

    Food will be sold by Vital Vegan and baked goods by the Sedona Homeless Alliance.

    Raffle tickets for local gift certificates will be on sale at the event as well as the week prior in Sedona Recycles’ lobby. Winners will be announced at 2:00 on April 23rd.

    Also to be announced is the recipient of the Environmental Steward of the Year award.

    The Sad Lesson of Tyre Nichols

    Having grown up in the mean streets of the Bronx there is one lesson we learn early on, and that’s don’t mess with the cops when they got you down, and outnumbered. The beating of Tyre Nichols at the hands of the police preceding his death at the hospital could have been avoided if only he had the sense to not resist them. People fail to understand that on the streets, cops are basically “God.” You can’t fight them. If it takes one, two, five, ten or twenty officers they will eventually put you down and hurt you if they have to in the process of detaining or arresting you. In the Bronx we would fight amongst ourselves but when the cops came it was “Yes, officer. No, officer,” and do our best to look as innocent as possible. People need to understand that cops on the street represent the full power of the state and government. Read more→
