City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (August 10, 2018) – Warm evenings are just one great reason to step outside and enjoy quality events and programs offered by the Sedona Parks and Recreation Department.

The Sedona Community Pool eases into the 2018 fall schedule beginning Aug. 13 and will be available for lap swim, open swim and water aerobics into the middle of November.  Heated to a comfortable 83 degrees, the pool offers eight lap lanes, both deep and shallow water for play, a water slide, lounge chairs on deck, and locker room facilities with showers.

    Upcoming events

    • Family Foot Rodeo on Aug. 17 is a unique event that celebrates the history of Posse Grounds Park with interactive rodeo events like bounce horse barrel racing and dummy calf roping.  This year Loop Rawlins from America’s Got Talent will be at the event spinning up two amazing wild west shows. Live music by the Dan and Dave Rice Band and food for sale. Location: lower softball field at Posse Grounds Park.
    • Fall Friday Flicks will glow through twilight each Friday in September.  Recline on the cool grass of the softball field and enjoy a family friendly movie at dark at Posse Grounds Park.
    • Sedona WagFest & Fair on Sept. 29 is the perfect day out for dogs and their owners to learn about canine resources, products and providers. Location: the Pavilion at Posse Grounds Park.
    • Red Dirt Concert Series on Friday evenings Oct. 12 and 26 and Nov. 2 and 16.  Each evening two musical performances take the stage. Spectators can expect a variety of musical genres, sweet treats for sale and a beautiful view. Location: the Pavilion at Posse Grounds Park.
    • Pumpkin Splash on Oct. 20 is hands down the best pumpkin patch in Sedona and the Verde Valley.  Pumpkins are picked directly out of the community pool so bring a swim suit and pack a camera for this outstanding event.  Games on deck and treats for sale. Tickets for this sell-out event go on sale Oct. 8 at the Parks and Recreation Office located at Posse Grounds Park. Event location: Sedona Community Pool.

I would like to say thank you to our wonderful Volunteer Park Rangers who provide assistance during community events, greet visitors in Uptown and answer their questions every day of the year!  We are lucky to have such dedicated volunteers.

    Analyzing City’s Legal Right to
    Ban OHVs on Public Roads

    By Tommy Acosta
Mea Culpa! Mea Culpa! Mea Maxima Culpa! I screwed up. Blew it. Totally made a fool of myself. Missed the boat. I am talking about my editorial on the OHV fight, No Legal Traction on OHVs. I assumed that it was ADOT that would make a decision on whether the city could legally ban off road vehicles from our public roads like S.R. 89A and S.R. 179. Man was I off. ADOT has nothing to do with allowing or disallowing the city to do so. ADOT’s response to me when I asked them to clarify their position, was curt and to the point. “ADOT designs, builds and maintains the state highway system,” I was told. “It is not our place to offer an opinion on how state law might apply in this matter.” It was a totally “duh” moment for me when I realized that that the decision or judgement on the OHV ordinance, would involve the state and not ADOT. Chagrinned I stand. The crux of the matter then is whether the city can effectively use a number of standing state laws that can be interpreted to determine whether the city can legally ban the vehicles or not.
