Benefactors of Red Rock State ParkSedona AZ (May 22, 2020) – Benefactors of Red Rock State Park is concluding their outdoor classroom raffle this weekend, with raffle tickets available for purchase at their website www.benefactorsrrsp.org.

This raffle is raising funds to build a new outdoor classroom to replace the one that washed away in a flood a year ago. To be built on safe higher ground, the new classroom will be used by all ages, but particularly elementary students. Red Rock State Park’s School Connection Program hosts over 1,500 area students each year, introducing them to the wonders of the natural world. Ever since the old classroom was washed away, the Park has lacked an outdoor classroom for this great educational program.

There will be two separate raffle drawings. A Fifty-Fifty Raffle will award a 1st prize of 25% of the proceeds of the raffle, a 2nd prize of 15% of the proceeds and a 3rd prize of 10% of the proceeds.  50% will go toward rebuilding the outdoor classroom.

The second raffle will award a number of prizes donated by local businesses. You can win 2 lodging nights, tickets for local adventures, or meals at local restaurants. Winners of 5 Arizona State Parks Standard Annual Passes will also be drawn. A complete list of prizes is available online at www.benefactorsrrsp.org.

Tickets for these raffles will be $5 each, or $20 for five.  The drawing will be held on May 25, and you do not need to be present in order to win.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
