logo_sedonaperformingartsallianceSedona AZ (April 25, 2014) – The Sedona Performing Arts Alliance presents “My Red Suitcase Open Wide” a multimedia one-woman show, on Sunday, May 11th at 7PM. Ingrid Hagelberg will be performing live at the Mary D Fisher Theatre located at 2030 Hwy 89A in West Sedona. Tickets will be available at the door and online at www.studiolivesedona.com. Tickets are $25.

20140425_pic-horiz-Vismaya-20141Many years ago, Ingrid, a native Swede, came to the U.S. from Europe, where she had established herself as a singer and actress. Prior to owning her red suitcase, she traveled lightly, arriving at LAX with her backpack was stuffed with high hopes and big dreams. Ms. Hagelberg was contracted to headline in John Van Drutten’s Broadway hit, “I Remember Mama”, a play about a Norwegian immigrant family during the early 1900s. Playing “˜Mama’ earned her the Glendale Center Theatre Best Actress Award.

After traveling the world, recording 3 CDs, and performing in top venues in Tokyo, Paris, LA, Warsaw and Frankfurt, she landed in Sedona. In 2010, she released her latest album, Songs from my Red Suitcase, which delivers a fine selection of autobiographical songs. Her current multimedia stage show is comprised of a well-paced, delightful monologue with projected visuals and musical interludes, with original songs from her albums and some additional gems. The whole package magically draws you into Ingrid’s personal journey. It is laced with subtle humor and emotional depth. She presents all of it masterfully in a style uniquely her own.

Ms. Hagelberg takes you on a trip into memory lane all the way back to her dreams and aspirations as a little 5-year old girl. She exposes her initial fears, insecurities, and vulnerabilities, which heretofore have remained hidden deep within her soul, and by symbolic extension, in her well-traveled, red suitcase. Being exceedingly courageous and adventuresome, she was able to pull it off from the moment she left home as a naive 18 year old. Ultimately, Ingrid’s exquisitely personal journey has been one of discovery, recognition, acceptance, and joyful embrace of Self, of that little girl eager to deliver the goodies she knew she had to share.

Also her loving embrace of her audience, aiming to inspire you to listen to your own inner childlike voice nudging you to act foolishly. And then to respond courageously by entering a foreign place and time, regardless of your doubts and fears about what the outcome could be. In all, Ingrid’s story is one of jumping exuberantly into the unknown, not just once, but many times over. She invites you to come to the Mary D. Fisher Theatre to enjoy an intimate evening of story telling and song. It is sure to warm your heart, you will leave the theatre with a sense of youthful delight. It’s happening right here in Sedona, Ingrid’s latest hometown, the second city that has brought out the deeper facets of her inner light.

In honor of Mother’s Day, two of our top local restaurants will be giving a special culinary treat to all patrons, Heavenly Bites will be provided by Dahlicious Delights Catering and Tasty Bites will be provided by High Country Cuisine at Los Abrigados Resort and Spa.

    What Would I Change?
    By Amaya Gayle Gregory

What would I change if I could? You and I both know I can’t, but it’s a fun exercise anyway. I would have been less of a know-it-all on my spiritual journey. It seems to be a side-effect of the path. Spiritual folks develop an all-knowing buffer to protect against their inevitable surrender to the unknown, but understanding that now didn’t make it gentler on me or those I loved, let alone those that I deemed not capable of getting it 😉 Yeah … I’d have dropped the spiritual snob act. I’d have recognized that spiritual radicals are only different on the outside from radical right Christians, and that the surface doesn’t really matter as much as I thought. We are all doing our couldn’t be otherwise things, playing our perfect roles. I’d have learned to bow down humbly before my fellow man, regardless of whether I agreed with him or not. We’re all in this together and not one of us will get out alive. Read more→
