Sedona AZ (December 12, 2011) – The Sedona Heritage Museum has recently received sponsorships for two of their upcoming local Arizona Centennial celebration programs.

The Arizona Lottery just informed the Museum they would become a major sponsor for the Centennial Splatter Dab Breakfast scheduled for February 12, 2012. The breakfast will honor descendants of families who were living in Arizona in 1912, the year Arizona became a state. This event will be open to everyone interested in celebrating Arizona’s 100th birthday. This event has been designated an official Arizona Centennial event by the state committee.

Prior to this award, the City of Sedona and the Sedona Main Street Program became sponsors of an event scheduled during the Sedona St. Patrick’s parade next March. This event will honor a large gathering of the extended Jim Thompson family. The Thompson family was prevalent in local history in 1912 and Jim was Oak Creek Canyon’s first permanent Anglo settler and first Irishman. The City is also a sponsor of the Museum’ Centennial Radio Theater show scheduled for February 11 and 12.

The beating of Tyre Nichols at the hands of the police preceding his death at the hospital could have been avoided if only he had the sense to not resist them. People fail to understand that on the streets, cops are basically “God.” You can’t fight them. If it takes one, two, five, ten or twenty officers they will eventually put you down and hurt you if they have to in the process of detaining or arresting you. In the Bronx we would fight amongst ourselves but when the cops came it was “Yes, officer. No, officer,” and do our best to look as innocent as possible. People need to understand that cops on the street represent the full power of the state and government. Read more→
