logo_verdevalleysanctuarySedona AZ (April 21, 2017) – Treat mom to an evening she’ll always remember this Mother’s Day, May 14, during Mother’s Day Picnic on the Mesa, a fundraiser benefiting the Verde Valley Sanctuary. The event takes place at 5 p.m. at Sky Ranch Lodge on Airport Mesa. Relax with a glass of wine or cold beer, kick up your heels to live music by Bill Bassett’s Trailblazers and special guest Tara Middleton, participate in live and silent auctions, take silly photos in the photo booth, and play a carnival-style game to win beautiful gourmet baskets filled with tasty vittles from your favorite local restaurants. Once you’ve won your basket, make yourself comfortable at checker-clothed tables and enjoy your feast surrounded by your friends and neighbors (not to mention one of the best red rock views in town). All proceeds from the casual event will benefit the Verde Valley Sanctuary’s emergency shelter.

Participating restaurants include ChocolaTree Organic Oasis, Cowboy Club, Gerardo’s Italian Kitchen, Heartline Café, Old Town Red Rooster Café, Redstone Bar & Grill, Rene at Tlaquepaque, ShadowRock, Sound Bites Grill and Tavern Grille.

The beating of Tyre Nichols at the hands of the police preceding his death at the hospital could have been avoided if only he had the sense to not resist them. People fail to understand that on the streets, cops are basically “God.” You can’t fight them. If it takes one, two, five, ten or twenty officers they will eventually put you down and hurt you if they have to in the process of detaining or arresting you. In the Bronx we would fight amongst ourselves but when the cops came it was “Yes, officer. No, officer,” and do our best to look as innocent as possible. People need to understand that cops on the street represent the full power of the state and government. Read more→
