Microgrids are basically small neighborhood- or factory-sized power generating systems that can be cut off from the larger power grid during blackouts. With increasing extreme weather events, they provide resilience. But until recently, if you wanted one, you had to figure out how to engineer it and pay for it. But it’s getting easier.
