Sedona News – The Humane Society of Sedona is pleased to announce that the 2023 Kids & Kritters Summer Camps have returned and are in their 13th year. The Camps are returning with new ideas and expanding on the activities that kids can relate to and have fun doing.

Animals are our teachers if we listen to them. They can teach us kindness, compassion, and responsibility; traits that everyone should possess. What more could you ask for in a fun, educational curriculum on life skills as demonstrated by the animals and “Camp” speakers?

Summer Camps in 2023 are held on June 12-16, June 26-30, and July 10-14, at our Education Center at 2115 Shelby Drive in West Sedona. Each “Camp” is limited to 12 campers (ages 7-12) and the hours are Monday-Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $275.00 per camper/for each 5-day session and all supplies for the Camp are included. Campers are requested to bring their own lunch each day and if a parent would like to help with any of the “Camp” experiences they can sign up as a volunteer and will be most welcome.

20230603 Halo01 4x5 72Campers will enjoy learning about animal care, behavior learning activities, all carefully monitored hands-on interactions with our canine and feline friends, as well as other domesticated “kritters”. Additional fun-filled craft activities, special guest speakers, and possibly some other surprises are in store during the week. Upon graduation from “Camp” each camper will receive a HSS “Kids & Kritters” t-shirt to proudly display your attendance in our 2023 Summer Camp.

“Kids & Kritters Camp” is a unique camp experience. Campers will learn from amazing guest speakers on a variety of animal related subjects, including how to safely interact with the animals, learn about individual animal traits and how to properly care for animals as “pets”. Everyone at the Humane Society of Sedona is looking forward to the fun and excitement that is generated by all the participating campers and others during these camp sessions”, states Sarah Porter, Director of Operations at HSS and the 2023 Camp Coordinator.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
